It's impossible to win money on the EPL.

I disagree...

I take it you had Chelsea today..?

I had Chelsea in some correct score and a double result wagers. I didn't expect CA to score. I have been on a lot of message boards and see people picking EPL games and NO ONE wins.

I am on the opposite side of you in the MAN U/Liverpool game. At least one of us will win.

InSpades- The English Premier League is an absolutely hideous league. The games have almost become unwatchable. I can't believe how bad the quality of play is. There is no flow or pace to the games. There are constant stoppages for fouls and the clutching and grabbing is out of hand. The players take forever to take free kicks, corners and throw ins.

A perfect example of this was in the Charleton at Chelsea game yesterday. Tha ball game back to Chelsea goalie Peter Cech. He walked around with the ball and then put it down and played around with it before finally kicking it. I would say at least 15 to 20 seconds went by from the time he caught the ball until it was back in play. Of course, the referee did nothing.

I love soccer but the English Premier League has a whole lot of room for improvement in the quality of play.

What could the referee do? Goalie's not breaking any rules. I don't understand your complaint. Opposing player has to close him down and force him to kick it. Happens all the time in all leagues, especially if one team has a lead.

EPL is one of the faster paced leagues in europe imo. With the exception of Chelsea and a few others anyways. Chelsea does bring a more slow defensive style led by their manager.

I usually have a positive cashflow early in the season and get out when the tables turn. It's pretty predictable at first. You just have to know when to get out.

Quality of play here is a bit of subjective description. I must admit that watching the EPL these days is not as exciting as it used to be, BUT the English teams these days are becoming the strongest in the world. In the past Italian teams used to be the strongest in my point of view and would only not perform on a European level, since their own Serie A used to be what it was all about. This defensive playing style seems to be the way to win and just that is what is needed. In Italy they know it for years already.

Ask yourself the following question: If you are 1-0 ahead and can play in such a way that the 1-0 remains a certainty, would you still rather play in such a way that you have 95% chance of making it 2-0, but also have 5% chance of drawing 1-1?
Teams that unknowingly still go for the 2-0 will end up having a higher rating, if one just looks at the score difference and ignores their winning percentage.

Anyhow it is surely an interesting development and has given me plenty of ideas how to start modifying my model.

You are right that it was more exciting but I still prefer watching EPL (or Uk soccer in general, i like very much the FA Cup) than other european league (in except of some particular match of course) even if i think they are not becoming the strongest...IMO only Chelsea is...and this is the same situation in all the main european championship with one or two teams better than all the others (i think the top european team now are Chelsea, Barcellona, Juventus..on the same level). I agree on the defensive style, playing like this is more difficult to win a match but more easy to win a championship ;-) (in last years also in Italy we have seen coach trying to change this style but with no succes for now).

This is very interesting for the betting purpose and in particulary for the live betting mode.
I was thinking about playing only handicap high odds on the nordic championship, but for now i've no database on it to support this type of research (i've bought the database on a site, something like 1x2soccer, but no nordic league on it).
Anyway it's an interesting point to develop

Stoppages drive me nuts too. If a player picks up the ball after a foul, then turns around and walks away with ball. That should be a yellow card immediately. They are wasting time for their defense to get back. Its ridiculous. I don't care if they are waiting for a wall to be set up. You shouldn't be allow to touch the ball after committing a foul.

Anyone watched Arsenal yesterday?
That is how you play football!
They were 2-0 up with 20 minutes to go.
So what do you do when you have the ball in possession near the goal of your opponents? Do you go for the 3-0 risking a miss, which automatically gives the ball back to your opponents who then can have a shot at you? It is like allowing your opponents to foul you when you play basketball, yes you are more likely to win bigger, but it also gives the other side an opportunity to snatch your victory. What you do, is kick the ball all the way back to your own side and take it slowly back in front again and try to repeat this as long as possible: run the clock!
If they want to avoid these things happening with football they may need to start introducing some backcourt violation rules.

A great example of this was Wigan v Liverpool this weekend. Pool up 1-0 and then defense, defense and more defense. Fucking boring game to watch imo - fortunately I was on Pool -0.5 otherwise it would've been a total waste of time to watch that game. Schalke v Leverkusen a few minutes later was a totally different story - what a great game!!

i agree and disagree to a certain degree.
start of the season, teams seemed to concentrate a bigger emphasis on defence and to not give away too much, this culminates with the whole lucractivity (if theres such a word) money wise the EPL brings so everyone is trying to put in some good foundations 1st half of the season so they are not lurking in too much relegation area, the xmas fixtures is a pain too, the pile up is appalling and one fo the worst times to bet on the EPL as team are playing matches every 2days or so for 3/4 matches...this creates managers with big injury, fatigue and squad rotational problems.

i factor i reckon maks the above more obvious was the average o/u line, this 1st half to the season, i have seen more 2.25 (2.0, 2.5) lines than ive seen in te EPL for a while, were the past common average is 2.5 from what i remember.

right now, the 2nd half of the season is starting to bare more fruit & nicer to punt on imo, teams have more focus on what their season will offer them, survival, mid-table, uefa or CL...etc

GL for the rest of the season
